So I FINALLY finished installing my used engine today. I don't know its history. It has AMC heads which I took off and resealed because the water seal was cracking. I started it up, and it runs fine, but occasionally it makes a tapping sound. It is high pitched, like if you hit an aluminum fry pan with a wooden spoon. It doesn't occur regularily -- it might happen once per second at idle, then not for a few seconds, then once or twice again, etc. Any ideas? I'm hoping it's a lifter noise or backfiring because both are easy to fix. I have my lifters backed off somewhat at the moment and they are very loud. I'll see if I can make a sound recording of the engine running and post it somewhere. Thanks all! tabe johnson/87 westy/vancouver bc __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
