Subject: Re: lifter that doesn't stay pumped up?

Dont know what your lifter problem history is, but I once had bad lifter problems. Against advice, I only replaced 2 lifters, and got ok results. 2 lifters had collapsed.Gunk was the villian.I tried to readjust the old lifters cause I thought I had air bound lifters as per Bently.I adjusted as per Bently (lash +2 turns).Got a no compression condition.Too much turning past lash.Collapsed 2 of the 8 lifters.I got a sea foam like engine solvent and cleaned out some gunk.Readjusted the lifters to lash + 1/4 turn and have good results.A lifter only has motion of 1/15 of an inch, and 2 turns is more than that. The bently says that after bleeding the air, by setting to .006,it is ok to leave it there most times. I did a 1/4 turnin addition to lash to hit the 1/15 inch travel near the middle.Worked for me.
