The amount of weight that can be put on the ball (of your trailer
hitch) by the portion of the trailer that connects to it (called the
tongue).
Some big trailers can have several hundred pounds of "tongue" weight,
which could break your hitch, or lift the front of your Vanagon off the
ground.
