Hi Robert, I've researched the same question for a couple of years. Of the 2 solutions, I think that Microsoft has better maps of Canada --- based on some comparisons of obscure little areas that I knew very well. So if you're looking for the laptop interface with GPS -- maybe the MS solution is best. I dithered about this for a long time and eventually bought a Garmin handheld (eTrex Vist C) which will either interface with a laptop or work with downloaded maps as a standalone. About 3 times the price --- that's why it took me 2 years to talk myself into it :-)
