Just called Mountain States VW (dealer) to see if, by chance, they had some exhaust gaskets in stock for my 1.9...The P.O. basically bolted up the exhaust with no gaskets, which is causing leaks and several other issues, i.e. running rich, fouling the OXS sensor, etc.

The guy in their parts department could not for the life of him figure out what I was talking about. He tried explaining to me that the Vanagon had a very "uncoventional flat motor" and that different terms and parts applied to it. Huh?

After a couple of frustrating minutes of trying to explain which gaskets I needed, the guy says, "you know, the Vanagon is not a big seller anymore, so we don't generally carry a lot of parts for it. I'd probably have to special order anything you'd need."

I replied, with as much restraint as I could muster, "Not a big seller? That is because they haven't BUILT them in fourteen years. Can I talk to somebody else?"

"Uh, nope, I'm the only one here."

Frustrating. I should have gone to the list vendors first, but this dealership is less than a mile from my house and I'd hope to get a bit of work done. Lesson learned.
