Subject: How can this be?

Howdy, Last Thursday night the lower of the two radiator hoses came off, I believe it's the return line to the water pump. It happened only three blocks from my home, what luck. So today I get around to putting it back together. At first I figured that I had a blown hose but much to my surprise it had come off for some reason. So I go out and get new coolant, Mercedes yellow type. The local FLAPS used to carry the Pentosin Blue and when I inquired why they no longer had it they told me that the state of California made them that if off the shelves because there were no instructions in English on the container. Anyway I digress, I reattach the hose and put in some coolant flush stuff and figure I would have to add lots and lots of water to fill the system back up. But much to my surprise I could only put in enough water to refill the overflow tank. I had the front end up on ramps and the bleeder screw opened at the top of the radiator and had a constant flow of air free coolant coming out. How can this be? I followed my trail of leaking coolant that same night and know that I lost more than the equivolent of the over flow tank in coolant. Also as I was closing the system back up that same hose blew off. I reused the same spring type clamp that was on it. So now I'm off to get a real hose clamp and will redo the process again. Any thoughts? TIA, Paul Rogers 85 Westy Any thoughts would be appreciated. TIA, Paul Rogers 85 Westy
