The rebuilt 1.9 in my weekender leaks like crazy if filled past halfway between the two marks on the dipstick. Quits when it gets closer to the lower mark. But since I learned from Dennnis Haynes and others on the list that the top mark isn't "full" but maximum and that the bottom marks isn't "low" but minimum, I put just a little over 4 qts in at change time, so the oil level is just above the minimum mark. It doesn't leak at all then. It means I have to check more frequently. I think there must be some seal that isn't in place properly as I never had this with the 1.9 in my 84.

But the most important thing is that it is better for the lubrication of the engine to keep the oil level closer to the minimum mark rather than the maximum mark. Dennis Haynes explained that once again in the last 24 hours.
