Subject: Correct location for thermostat housing O-ring
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

On my Vanagon (2.1L), I took apart the thermostat housing to put in a working thermostat. After I put it back together, it had a slight leak.

Everything is clean and happy and the O-ring is in good shape.

I put everything back together the way it was, with the O-ring on TOP of the thermostat.

But if you look at illustration 16-07 in the ETKA, it shows the O-ring UNDER the thermostat. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me -- As I recall there's a bevel on the top part of the housing which (I assume) is to push the O-ring outward.

Can anyone confirm the correct location of the O-ring relative to the thermostat? The archives aren't working for me tonight. Maybe I'm asking too much of the server!

Thank you,
