Subject: Replacing Lifters

Hi John,
The lifters themselves are easy as pie to replace. Cost is an issue though.
What you have to do is take off the valve covers, remove the rocker arms,
pull out all the pushrods, break off the pushrod tubes (no other way to take
the tubes off), pull out the lifters with a magnet or something, and put everything
back together using spring loaded pushrod tubes. Then adjust the lifters.
Cost: 8 spring loaded tubes + 8 lifters = big $$$ (I'm guessing more than $500)
I've been reading all about valve adjustment and lifters in the archives and it
doesnt' sound like there's a consensus. I have mine loose (clack clack clack)
as I just installed a replacement engine. Once I've run the engine for a while
will tighten them up.
In your case, an adjustment wouldnt hurt since it's free.
Best,
