I have the Delorme earthmate with Street Atlas 2005.
We used it in February on a trip from northern Maine to New Orleans with
a number of little side trips to visit friends and relatives. It always
took us right to each door where we visited.
We were in my 2000 Beetle and the driver's side headlamp went out so I
let street atlas guide us to the nearest Wal*Mart, where I snagged a
bulb, made the change, then let the GPS get us back on our way.
I really like the talking feature ... especially in cities where there
are lots of streets and lots of traffic. With the "spoken" directions I
don't even have to look at it. It tells me in time to make the correct
turns. It's a great feature if your "navigator" is one who gets lost in
parking lots ... or hasn't learned the program well enough to manipulate
it properly. My Street Atlas has a feminine voice ... I call her Gertie.
Now as to Canada ... I plotted our course from Houlton, Maine to Almonte
(BusFusion) and found the detail of smaller streets and the database of
businesses to be almost nonexistent. It'll get us to BusFusion, no
problem, but Canada isn't covered like the US for backroads and such.
We'll see you at BusFusion if you want to take a look at it.
