Probably what is happening is that the high speed is coming on and not the low speed. Does it sound really loud when it comes on? If the high speed only comes on then it is allowing the radiator to get hotter than it should and the fan will come and and go off more frequently than if the low speed is there. This problem is usually caused by the radiator fan resistor going bad. I have these in stock if you find you need one.
