Subject: 85 AC problems...pressure too high with small amount of
              refrigerant

Weird problem...maybe someone has an idea for me...

I have just replaced all my lines, replaced the dryer, flushed out the system, vacuumed the system, cleaned out the expansion valve and when charging the system after putting in a 2oz can of oil, 12 oz can of refrigerant with dye and on the next 12 oz can no more would enter the system....maybe we have 24 oz in total...

The guages are reading VERY high on BOTH sides of the system...in excess of 250 on high and well over 100 on the low...it cools, but I am afraid I may blow up something..so I am not running it until I get a proper diagnosis...

One mechanic I know said that the compressor may be bad...cracked valve? I am hoping not, but what else could be causing this problem??? FWIW, the cooling fan comes on and is turning in the proper direction....bad new dryer??
