After it is removed, the remaining pieces can be removed. There are bolts that hold them to the ceiling that will have to be removed.

Caution Number 1 .........There is a power cable in the tunnel from rear to front that powers the AC blower fans. There is a coupling within the tunnel that you will need to disconnect before dropping the tunnel. If the tunnel falls before the cable is disconnected there can be some damage within the cable itself.

Caution Number 2 ........There is a safety recall on the tunnel because the support system is flawed and the plastic material breaks and the tunnel will suddenly drop down. If this happens unexpectedly it can startle the driver and result in a wrecking-up!

Solution #1 - Install the support kit ( a real PITA to install) that is available through VW dealerships. The kit now costs about $10. This kit was free along with installation, for a ten year period, which is now expired. So you are on your own for getting it installed. You can do it or you can pay the dealership to do it.

Solution #2 - Make yourself a couple of nice metal straps, apply a nice upholstery surface to the metal match you van or paint the metal. Install externally to the tunnel by drilling a couple of holes into the ceiling FRAMES and use a sheet metal screw to secure the strap to the frame. Or, if you want to go all out, you can install a threaded receptacle into the frame to receive a standard screw or bolt.

BTDT!!!
