Check valves at points of exit would be smart, and VW did indeed put one in the brake booster line before it exits the engine compartment and heads forward. The fuel regulator hose is short so they probably figured that if it was starting to run into trouble, the observant owner would spot it and replace it.

I don't yet have the i.d. of either of those two lines, but it's probably around 1/2'' (12 mm or so -- does someone have an ETKA?). I know that the line that will go to my cruise control's vacuum reservoir can has an i.d. of .200'' (5mm).

You know what I'm having a surprisingly difficult time finding? A barbed reducing tee to put into either the brake booster line or the fuel regulator line. 12mm-ish input and output, and side branch of 5mm.

And check valves -- where's a good place to find one? I don't have any boneyards within a 2-hour one-way drive from here.
