list: i had an analogous mishap using a 17 AH emergency battery to give a neighbor a jump. the battery on that car was badly discharged due to a malfunctioning alternator. in fact, the car konked out and coasted into its parking place many days before, not even a hint of horn or headlight, not to budge for some time. anyway, the current draw was so huge, apparently, that the 17 AH battery was immediately discharged without even cranking the car, and now won't hold a full charge for more than a few days. definitely a minor incident compared to damaging a vehicle, and a good example of why those 17 AH batteries are such a good idea for jumping a strange car. we replaced the alternator, gave the battery a little charging time with a 3 amp charger, hooked up both a fresh 17 AH battery and the already marginal one (after a good charging), left the 3 amp charger on for good measure, and she cranked and started like nothing ever happened. dan
