Hello all. I have a problem on my 85 vanagon that I have no ideo where to start. My turn signals have been degrading for the last several weeks. The blinker blinks irregularly. Now just for the last few days, it has started to make a grinding/electrical sound from the headlight "thingy" in the fuse panel. While looking through the archives, I found some references to corroded ground wires in the turn signals. So I took them out and sure enough, one of the spade connectors was somewhat corroded. So I sanded it clean and it didn't change things. In looking onto this, I have discovered a few other things. Hesdlights on...brake lights don't work neither do turn signals Turn signal on...brake lights don't work If I unplug the passenger rear light module, everything works as it should. Brakes work without any other lights on Turn signals work without any other lights on. Headlights always work. One last interesting thing...if I have the headlights on, ignition off and put the van in reverse, the dash lights will glow dimly and the fuel pump sounds like it goes for a couple of seconds on as if I had turned on the ignition. I also noticed that when I put on the brakes, the turn signals (I think all of them) light up just *slightly*. So I'm not sure what is happening. So I'm sorry if this message is confusing. I'm not sure of how to troubleshoot this. If anyone has some suggestions on how to go about fixing this, I wouldappreciate it greatly. I should note that I recently installed a new trailer light 3 wire to 4 converter as the old one didn't work. But things did work correctly after it was installed. So, if anyone can give me a direction to start in, I would appreciate any help. I amon a long trip and don't want to be without brake lights at night or the combination of turn signals and brake lights. Thanks!
