Seeing Alistair's photos, with the new oil cooler neatly capped, plus the recent thread about CV joints, reminded me of when I used to work at the Naval Aviation Depot, North Island, where they overhauled Navy aircraft. They had an infinite variety of plastic caps, plugs, etc., and anytime a system was opened, whether hydraulic, air, fuel, whatever, it was capped or plugged to keep out foreign objects until they were ready to re-assemble. Think FOD if you are ex-military. It may not be a matter of life or death on a Vanagon, but it could be a cause of failure down the road if you leave the part lying around the garage and a bug crawls inside a fuel, propane, coolant, oil, refrigerant or other line. So cap it, plug it, tape it or bag it. Or if you live in Yuma AZ, a Harrier jet could drop out of the sky on top of your Vanagon. Jerry
