Hi all, thanks so much for the replies.

I have been to NJ and back... and on the way back, the van performed very well.

As Ken at Vanagain discovered, my problem was not a bad Temp 2 sensor, but a bad ground, which was corrupting the Temp 2 sensor output. (I think Dennis Haynes mentioned this as a possibility in one of his posts that I saw.) The problem, until fixed, was devastating. Not only would the van usually not start, but it would leak oil whenever it did start since it was running so rich. That is (thankfully) fixed now as well, with an oil change.

This fixed my previously mentioned voltage problem as well (thanks for the replies on that, too). My volts are now at 14v. That sounds good, right?

Here's another big thanks to Ken at Vanagain, and also to Terry, who answered my calls for help with very thorough vanagon phone support.

Thanks again guys, Wes.
