Subject: VW DOT Fluid (LVC)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Okay, I am brain washed. I have a bunch of VW Audi DOT 4 fluid hanging around, fairly new (within 6 months, unopened). I also have a 1967 Sunbeam Alpine sports car that I previously rebuilt and serviced brakes and clutch with Lucas / Girling DOT 4 fluid. Locally, no L/G fluid to be had, and it's time to flush (getting a bit cloudy).

I think the overiding factor is if it is mineral based (it needs to be). Does anyone know if the VW fluid such as obtained at the dealer is mineral based? Just to confuse things, it is labled VW Audi SUPER DOT 4 fluid, (but it doesn't have a little red cape attached to the bottle) ;). I figure I can use it, as it states it is suitable for both DOT 3 and 4 applications. Any comments?

Thanks for the interuption, you can now return to regularly scheduled Vanagon content,

Dave
