I, too, have the strong gasoline smell after I fill up - along with a few
drops on the ground.  It doesn't happen if I don't fill all the way.
However, now that I'm out of the flatlands (Oklahoma) for the summer and
working in New Mexico, I'm driving up and down mountains roads and have
noticed that even when the tank is half full or less, I get a strong gas
smell when I'm going down a long hill.

When I did the Subie conversion last fall, I put new fuel lines at the
engine, but didn't replace the ones forward of the engine compartment to
the tank.  I'm thinking I should probably go ahead and have those replaced
now, but is there something else that needs repair because of the fill-up
problem?  I don't have a place to work on it here myself, so will have to
have it done at a shop.

BTW, I'm getting 20 to 21 mpg out here - much better than in Oklahoma.
