Subject: Fuel Tank Fuel line De-briefing Hope it helps someone.

A few weeks ago I was asking questions about leaking hoses on the top of the tank and if I could repair without dropping it.. Well I ended up dropping it today I had planned to fully photograph and document the whole thing but as I was working away I forgot to keep getting the camera. I have a few pics www.thacker.ca/auto/westfalia. I would also like to thank John's Bug shop in Niagara Falls Ontario for helping me out on a Saturday afternoon. I was in a crisis situation with out an extra T to replace a damaged one from my tank he Pointed me to a field with some stripped Vanagons and said help yourself. Without his help I would have been dead in the water. Previously I didn't really take the words of caution from the list about the fuel lines perishing but on my van pretty much every line on the tank crumbled. I replaced everything I saw 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 inch lines and now I am taking the list comments SERIOUSLY about changing the lines in the engine bay. I will be changing them Next weekend for sure. I don't need an engine fire.

My Suggestions for this job. 1987 Vanagon GL Westfalia

Have a helper Have lots of various sized hoses and clamps I used 1/4 3/8 1/2 Be very careful with those nylon T's or better, have a spare. Do it at a local do it yourself garage where they have a hoist and tranny jacks. Change all the rubbers on the tank 1 filler neck and 3 for the lines. 19.00 for all
