So, I went out to the GoldBrick (86 Syncro) to go to work. The gas gauge was reading empty. But it has a full tank. Most annoying. Especially in light of the fact that the sender unit was replaced 4 years ago...

I checked and no the wires were still attached.

So how likely is it that the gauge is the issue rather than the sender unit? And does anybody know the range of resistance on the sender unit?

Kim,

I am yet to have the fuel gauge in my T3 give trouble however FWIW, in all previous cases where I have had problems with VDO VW fuel gauges, it has

been the sender...or associated problems such as the grounding as already suggested by Dave. Only once in about 10 such instances was the gauge itself the culprit...in a 68 Beetle. Exhaust all possibilities at the sender end before looking to the gauge IMO...
