My 90 Westy electric mirrors have been rather dodgy of late. Both mirrors clicked when the switch was actuated, but neither mirror would move. After reading the posts over the last few weeks pointing to wiring problems, I had a go at the project last night. My search was over pretty quick. I popped the 8 way switch out, then removed the back cover to find the copper tracks were quite oxidized in numerous areas. The spring loaded "barbells" were a bit of a surprise there...I assumend they were buried inside the switch body. I cleaned the copper surfaces with a glass fibre cleaning pen, lubed the surfaces with dielectric grease and snapped it back together. Everything works perfectly now. Thanks to those of you who posted on this. |
