Roger, There is tons of material in the archives on the 4th gear or 3/4 slider problem. One search frequently doesn't find the material that is needed. Use different search terms. In emails, few people are going to type out "fourth." To the search engine "fourth" and "4th" are probably as different as "fast" and "Vanagon diesel." Did you try "4th gear" or "3/4 slider" as search terms? Or look for transmission posts from Dennis Haynes or Daryl Christensen. You can get their emails addresses out of the archives. They both post almost every time someone inquires about these transaxle problems. In fact, you could greatly reduce the amount of 'garbage' to wade through in your search results by putting in a search for either of the terms I suggest above and restricting it to one of these names, then repeating the process for the other name.
