Subject: Location of oil leak
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

I have an oil leak in my 87 syncro which seems to be getting worse and I am looking for hints on what to look for. I have tried cleaning it off and examining it with the engine running but so far have not been able to pin point it. There is some oil dripping from the front of the engine but there also seems to be some coming from the rear and collecting on the drain plug. Some oil appears to be gathering allong the bottom casing seam but this may be coming from somewhere else. My questions: 1. My first thought was the main seal, if it was this then the oil would come out of the gap in the bottom of the bell housing, is that right? There is definately oil leaking from somewhere at the front of the engine.

2. Is there anything at the rear of the engine the often develops leaks?

3. Any other common leaks that I should look for (the pushrod tubes seem to be OK although it is difficult to see them)?

4. I have noticed a bit of clutch judder first thing in the morning which I presume could be oil on the clutch plate, is that likely?

Any other ideas??

Many Thanks David
