Sorry you didn't find the right lot. We were in lot 1C. There was tons of wide open space, 4 Westy's and minimal generator noise.

I've camped at a lot of race tracks and the first time at any track is usually tough because there is so much going on in and around the track.

It took us about 4 trips to indy before we refined our way in/out and where to camp.

Well, I went to the so-called US Grand Prix in Indianapolis.

Yeah, I know it wasn't a real race but you could have fooled my and my friend as we ate corn curls, dodged projectiles hurled by angry race-goers and watched the two Ferraris chase each other. What awesome cars!

What got me was the camping arrangement, actually. Jeff S. warned me that it was a zoo, I was ready for that. But what got me was that I called and told that there was PLENTY of $50 camping. When we got there, there were lots of helpful folks running around on four-wheelers who were there to inform you that there were only $130 sites left with the big rigs, and who took your CASH ONLY money and then guided you to your site.

Later I met two guys in the only other westy at the race, and they were in a quiet, friendly campground that surrounded a big common field. I showed the owner on the spot how to fix his odometer problem.

This friendly campground had a good many spaces available, so the camping stewards were lying to get the money. I had to sleep in a fiberglass canyon with generators running. It wasn't horrible since they gave me a nice spot, but I would much rather have been around my own species and saved the $70 it cost me to be in the company of folks who only came out to throw up or take out the trash from their mansions.

You can see a few pictures of the camping and me and Schumi at http://www.knology.net/~felder/Vanagons/
