Subject: Coolant Flow & Auxiliary Water Pump
Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII

Here is an update on my friends Van in which the 12 volt auxiliary water pump from a Jetta, or who know's what was installed to cure the in town, low speed heating up problem.

Upon taking it for a ride when the technical expert with the "cure" was done with it, both the head seals failed and are now blowing copious amounts of coolant all over the ground.

I had this in my mind when this off the wall solution to a plugged up radiator was suggested, and installed.

The weakest point of the cooling system would fail ( which I thought for sure would be an old hose ) due to ungodly high pressures.

Boy, was I wrong. It went direct to the big dollar fix.

Now he needs two head seals, and still needs a radiator to cure the problem.

I would be awfully upset at this wizard of ID who suggest and executed this crazy fix, and especially for the 500 dollar tab.

He did mount the pump above the spare tire carrier of the Van.

Bad move.

Poor Guy.

So, the lesson learned here is; Eurovans may use two pumps. Good. Vanagons with hardening of the artery problems shouldn't.
