Dunno on a Synchro.
On a SYNCRO however.... Stock wheels, highway driving, I typically saw 18 mpg in my 86 7 passenger and my 91 Westy Syncro. When I switched to 15" wheels, the mpg dropped (and more than just by the correction factor due to the larger wheels.) This was to be expected as the unsprung weight had significantly increased. AC on or off, made little difference, other than I couldn't run the AC on the stock engine, if I expected to maintain speed climbing hills (WV).
