I suspect a switch PROBLEM. Your symptoms (high beams not staying on) can be cause by several different problems. In my case (on two different Vanagons) the problem was the keyswitch was bad. For others, it has been the headlight switch.

The Bentley has wiring diagrams, which if you can understand, can help you in diagnosing which is your problem.

I wrote up a diagnositic to the list, not too many weeks ago. Check in the archives.
