Which kind, there are two: one with a 30mm hub, one with a 36mm hub (distance between holes, center to center). You have to use a water pump specifically for each pulley. The 30mm pulley sheave diameter is 115mm. The 36mm pulley sheave diamteter is 140mm. The double-belt, double-pulley setup that came stock on most or all diesel vanagons, that uses the shimmed sheave adjustment, has a rear pulley or 140, which is belted to the alternator (and uses the alternator for tensioning) and a front pulley of 115mm, using the shims and is belted to the outer sheave of the crankshaft pulley. More often that not, owners have dispensed with the two-belt system and run a single belt over the crank pulley, water pump pulley and alternator pulley. I have found this to be more convenient but less functional than the stock setup.
