Subject: switching AC power between hookup and inverter
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

I've got a 400w inverter I use with my aux battery. I am thinking about installing a switch that will switch the whole 110v wiring system of the van to either the outside hookup or the inverter. I would use a big DPDT switch and switch both the hot and neutral lines. Help me troubleshoot this idea. I'm trying to think of a situation where I might want to use both power sources at the same time. I can't think of one. I typically use the inverter to run the fridge while driving, and the occasional other small AC load. So it is awkward to crawl under the cabinet and switch the fridge AC lead from the inverter to outlet or vice-verse. Or to plug in an AC light, camera battery charger, etc. Hmm, just thought of the onboard battery charger. I would not want that to ever be plugged into the inverter, charging the battery that is running the inverter. Any thoughts?

Edward
