I cut mine several years ago for room under there for a couple of
subwoofers.  It's a little tricky pulling out the bed and getting it back
in, but a small price to pay for the sound improvement and storage
flexiblility increase.  What seems to happen is if you don't pull perfectly
equally in the middle of the seat bottom, one side will tend to get askew
and bind.  Easily remedied by back tracking and starting over.  No
stabiliity issues once it's down however..

I guess you really need to assess how many times per year you actually pull
that thing out and return it.  I do it less than once a month, so it's not
that big a hassle.
