I guess a "one size does all" sort of thing. Does such a thing exist?? Anyone? What camera would you recommend? I really would like to move into the digital world but don't really know where to start. I do know I need at least a medium priced unit.

John,

Having recently made the leap into the digital realm after a few decades of 35mm film experience (also with Olympus SLRs), I can offer the following:

First, most middle-to-upper-end digital still cameras can also shoot short segments (up to 3 min.) of high quality video, and most video cameras can shoot low-quality still photos. So you should perhaps start by deciding which is more important to you.

Then read articles such as this one and others to get a general overview of digital photography gear: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1537400,00.asp

Once you've started narrowing it down a bit, I have found the following two sites very helpful in assessing various camera models and comparing their features. Reviews and tests are done by enthusiasts and professionals. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/

In addition to reviews, this site also has chat forums where you can browse or post questions. http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html

Good luck, and let me know if I can help answer any other questions!
