To Jon Carpenter: where do you put the custom mattress while traveling, or is it always a bed (e.g. not foldable into a bench)? My van is my daily-driver, friend-hauler, furniture-mover, etc, so it wouldn't be an option in my case, but it sure looks darn comfy!

I permanently store a full-sized featherbed in the poptop during the summer months. It fits without being too "squished," and compresses down sufficiently to also include my feather comforter and pillows from my home bed when I go camping (so it's out of the way of the dogs, cooler, passengers). When I get there, I pop the top and give everything a good shake - Poof! A feather-lined nest.

I'm considering converting the poptop area into storage, though, because I've recently discovered that it is MUCH more comfortable "downstairs" (and warmer on those shoulder-season nights). I might add an extender board to the top bunk first to see if it is just an unconscious reaction to the bed being a little too short for all 6' of me. I find I can stretch out further on the lower bunk, so that might be why I'm more comfortable there.
