They DO auction Vanagons on the US Gov't Surplus site in Germany.  Don't recall the site address, been a year or so since I browsed it...  Shouldn't be too difficult for the net-savvy shopper to find if they do desire.  Seemed to be as many single cabs and crew cabs as regular buses.

Please note - During the past 17 years of operation, several gigabytes of Vanagon mail messages have been archived. Searching the entire collection will take up to five minutes to complete. Please be patient!
