Doug, I think that warning refers to home-window type air conditioners and not automotive air conditioners.

In one of these small AC unit manuals it states that you can cause damage to the unit if you turn it on and off more than 3 times in an hour. It specifically says not to "power down" Or restart without waiting at least 3 min if the power goes off.

My question is if the compressor cycles on and off based upon the thermostat. What is the concern?
