Ask any plumber and he will tell you stories of trying to change one old fitting and ending up changing the whole branch. Disturbing any sealed connection which has been in place for a long time carries with it some risk. Jens, you know, for all the peckering around you will have to do to smear on some JB Weld, you will expend less effort and time to just install a collapsible pushrod and end up with a predictable repair.
