Subject: Report on in Dash DVD Player
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

For father's day I got an in dash DVD/MP3/CD/Radio from my family. It is a Pyle PLDVD168. I just got around to finishing installing it today and I am pretty happy with it so far. This unit is just the player, so you will have to supply the screen yourself if you want to watch DVD movies. I already had a 7" LCD screen that I bought a couple of years ago and would use on long trips. It worked but it was a pain to have to use an invertor, a household DVD player, and all of the wires going everywhere. This new unit combines all of the stuff into almost one package and plays the sound for the DVD movies over your speakers in the van. I like it. It also comes with a remote for back seat movie watching. It is relatively inexpensive. I paid around $120 including shipping for it from a place called www.nugadgets.com. I couldn't even buy a regular MP3 radio from Walmart for that cheap. It fits in the Vanagon DIN but it is tight. It is a little longer than the stock radio so I had to bend the metal piece that holds the back of the radio in place out of the way. I used a wiring harness adapter kit so that I could just plug the radio into the factory wiring (in case I got a van I liked more in the future).

The only cheesy thing about it so far is the tuning knob. It has a digital display with digital tuning, but you turn a knob to change the stations instead of just pushing a button. It works but sometimes makes you feel like you are in between stations. Kinda strange.

I give it 4 stars out of 5. I'll keep you updated if I have any problems, etc.
