Either the 1314 or the 1315 are fine for Vanagons. The 1315 is slightly more flexible but most Vanagon owners won't make use of the extra feature. Both models allow the alternator to charge both batteries when the engine is running and the 1315 lets you have a charging source on the aux battery that will also charge the starting battery. For example you could have solar panels connected to the aux batteries and these would also automatically charge the starter battery if the aux batteries were charged enough first.. The 1314 does not allow this dual charging method. I have only used the 1315.
