I have the same symptoms exactly--and I do mean exactly-- and like you, physical conditions don't seem to matter.

Partly because of this, I am hurrying along a conversion to a freshly-rebuilt TD engine. I won't do it immediately, but I will perform a post-mortem on this engine eventually and will tell you what I find. Within the past two years I have put a bottom end in it (end play was bad, not the journals) and head, so I have seen most of the engine within a 30K mile time frame. I therefore would be able to spot anything worn except the intermediate shaft bearings.

I measured the oil pump per bentley during the bottom end rebuild and it was within spec.

I can say anecdotally that the oil pressure "problem" seemed coincident with an increase in consumption (burning, the car doesn't leak) but the engine runs well.

I'll save your email and let you know what I find, meanwhile will post your message on the yahoo! diesel list.
