Subject: Paint for black fiberglass bumper
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Is it possible to repaint black fiberglass bumpers roughly the same color with a spray can?

I realise it's sounds low-tech, but I've had great luck and results with the metal running boards and metal bumpers on my 54 chevy pick up using Rustoleum from a spray can. Honestly it looks great on the 54 and has lasted for years. I did the wheels too. But we're talking a pretty low-tech vehicle with the 54 pick up. And I did remove everything from the vehicle, striped everything down to bare metal, primed, then painted.

Thing is I'm guessing getting paint to adhere to the fiberglass might be a problem. And, I'm guessing the paint should be a little "flexible" to allow limited damage from stones, bugs, deer, etc. that'll eventually hit it.

So any recommendations of paint that will work and how to prepare the surface will be appreciated. Also a guidline for color to get close to the original black color is appreciated.

Also if warranted, advice like "Don't be a fibergl-ASS! Take it to a body shop to have it professionally painted you moron." will be appreciated if the idea of painting from a can is just too stupid to entertain.

Thanks, Jeff 83.5 Westy LA,CA
