There may be a better way of getting insurance valuation. Last year after I had put in new long block plus lots of extras, had new brakes, shocks, and wheel bearings installed, and then had the exterior of my '84 7-passenger totally restored including all new body rubber, I wanted to make sure I had right coverage in case of collision or other loss.

My local insurance agent had me take the van to a "recognized" car appraiser. His appraisal, which costs me $75, got me "stated value" coverage with my insurance company. Value was significantly short of what I had put into the van, but it was far better than the $500 value the insurance company would have used otherwise.
