You can do it without removing the evaporator by unscrewing the board that the evaporator is bolted to, of course this requies fully removing the curtain rails on both sides to get at all the bolts.

The bolts behind the closet are particularily hard to get to, plus the little metal mushroom shaped things they screw into had lost thier barbs are were turning freely in the holes, it required some ingenuity to get them out by myself (would be way easier with a helper). When I put this puppy back together I am leaving out a considerable number of these bolts... they are just overkill.
