Getting the output of the alternator up from 13.8V to something like 14.7V would help bring my Optima battery up to full charge before pulling into camp. (See "Car Batteries are not 12 Volts" at http://www.landiss.com/battery.htm , and http://tinyurl.com/4qem7 ).

I like the idea. But I could use some advice about which of their models appears to be the right one for me:

Does the '84 Vanagon's alternator have a 28mm or a 32mm diameter slip ring?

Or maybe an ETKA will tell the correct voltage regulator part number for the 84?

Barton Harness provides this list of candidate Bosch part numbers:

In the 28mm dia slip ring category: 034 903 803, 068 903 803, 068 903 803D,

In the 32mm dia slip ring category: 028-903-803A, 049-903-803B, 049-903-803E, 049-903-803F, 052-903-803, 059-903-803, 059-903-803B, 059-903-803C, 063-903-803, 070-903-803A
