Subject:      Adjusting  linkage problem

I thought I knew how to adjust the linkage on my 89 Vanagon 4speed but have 
learned otherwise. Briefly, I removed the box covering the underside of the 
shifter(below the floor.) I had hoped to clean out layers of grease but I 
mistakenly lifted the shifter and, apparently as a consequence, the shifter is 
leaning awkwardly off to the left and I can't get it into reverse. 


I can't seem to figure out how to remedy this situation and ask the List for 
advice. Does anyone know how I can get back to where I started with only mild 
difficulty shifting into first gear?  Any suggestions or comments will be most 
appreciated.
