There are 1988 syncros in Canada, both passenger vans and westys. They are the same as 1989 models, they have fiberglass bumpers and the rear window vents. Colors however were the same as 1987 models as far as I've seen. There are several fully optioned 'Carat like' 1988 syncros in the city where I live.

I don't have the tire sticker info handy, sorry.
