Guess that your van just needs the sight of the MMO bottle. Keep the bottle with you and show it to the van the next time it acts up. :<)

In reality, you probably hadn't driven the van enough to stop the clatter due to the lifter gradually filling itself back up. On both my 84 and my current 85, I never had clattering lifters unless they had been sitting quite some time. Only took 3-5 days for the WBX that was in the Syncro.

So, about the time you got the MMO, you did get enough driving done to stop the clatter.

MMO never did anything to stop the clatter in the Syncro. But, Mobil 15W50 and the proper Mann or Malhe filter made it less frequent and less pronounced.

The idea that some suggest is to put about a quart of MMO in with your oil at change time. For a good number of people, this has produced relief from the clattering lifter.
