It isn't really all that hard, you just tilt the regulator so the brushes go in first, then flatten it against the alternator case. Taking the old one out will give you a decent feel for the angle needed to put the new one in.

I'd have called it a pretty foolproof process, but since you found that warning, the vendor must have run into some much-improved late-model fools. :-)
