Subject: 91 Westy, low idle stall, low power ....help!
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

The bus was driving just fine--no problems until I drove to north Georgia last weekend, about 2.5 h drive. About halfway there I stopped to fill up the 1/2 tank ,,,,,with some gas at the Wal-Mart plaza (which I never do- but it was cheaper). Still no problems. All running normal. Noticed van with low power (could only hold about 30-35mph) going up steep mountain roads. Next day, upon returning, van cranked over fine, but would not hold a low idle and kept stalling. I managed to get going fast enough, and all is fine (no bucking or stumbling)--- but as soon as i decelerated to low idle --around 900 rpm) van would stall constantly. It would crank right back over like nothing wrong, but low power, until I could get on expressway. Then it runs normally -after an initial surge or two --to regular power - as long as I am at upper speeds. Other variables: I used the air conditioning a lot on this trip- and I never do, since it slows the van down. did it pop a hose somewhere? Did it dropped a piston? -- Although it does not sound like that.

Is this a vacuum hose problem? (cruise control works fine)......

Can you help? I am stuck and this is really dangerous to drive now. (BTW-This is my daily driver!) Is there anything I can go look and check for?

Thanks in advance!

(BTW- RE: Window tinting. I had all my windows tinted, the bus is MUCH MUCH cooler on the inside now. It is totally fabulous, and I wish I had done it years ago. It is the best money I spent on anything other than mechanical work on the bus. The only small problem is that you have to be carefo not to scratch it.....as my got a few when shoving camping and windsurfing gear in the back cargo/hatch area.)
