I have no figures.

I was bringing my Westy Syncro back from California. I was traveling in Colorado going up Monarch Pass (US Route 50). Stock engine (205K miles on it). I was trying to go up as fast as I could. 3rd gear was too high and I'd quickly fall back below 2000 rpms when I tried to use 3rd. So I was mostly going up in 2nd gear...at around 35-40mph.

The engine started to get hot ( water temp) then the water temp idiot light went off, and the oil buzzer went off. I pulled over as soon as I could (not many places to do that going up from the west). It spewed water for a while. After about 20 minutes I resumed the climb. it got hot again, but the buzzer didn't go off and we actually had to stop for a construction zone. So that gave us another 20 minute break.

By the time we go to the top, it was hot, hot hot again. We took a break, and shopped in the store there for about an hour. Then we cruised (coasted) down the mountain to the east (got 20 mpg on that tank of gas).

That engine kept on ticking for a lot of miles after that until I replaced it last year with the Subaru 6 cylinder.
